Tissue Remodeling in Rhinosinusitis
Lee Heung-Man

Abstract
Chronic rhinosinusitis is characterized by chronic inflammation of the nasal and paranasal mucosae and is currently classified into two major subgroups on the basis of the absence or presence of nasal polyps. A distinct set of inflammatory and remodeling factors has been found elevated in chronic rhinosinusitis. Transforming growth factor-¥â and matrix metalloproteinases are critical factors involved in the remodeling process. Transforming growth factor-¥â has been implicated as an important factor in remodeling processes involved in chronic rhinosinusitis, and serves as a main switch for different remodeling patterns in chronic rhinosinusitis.
